Migration & The Longing For Home

Earlier this month, we hosted our first storytelling workshop. Themed “Our Immigration Journey,” attendees came from all over the world, from West Africa to South America to the Caribbean.

Together, we created a beautiful space where we shared stories about food and nature, the longing for home(s) and all that it offers, the memorable moments of the immigration journey, and even the journey to return to where some of us were born. We also got to know the story behind each others’ names, and weaved that into our writing.

We found that there were many things that we - despite coming from eight different countries and immigrating to Canada at different times - shared. There were also many fascinating things about our cultures that we explored together, like how a child gets their name.

We can’t wait to host more spaces like these!
